Meet Dr. Tom

Dr. Tom graduated from the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa and has been practicing in Oskaloosa for over 30 years. Recently celebrating 100 years of Bowie Dentists in Oskaloosa as his Father and Grandfather practiced in our community as well.He is a professional member of the Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group and is proud to partner with the community in the support of arts and education. Dr. Tom and his wife, Madonna, are very active in volunteer activities in the school and community. They have 4 children with 2 married and one @ Drake University and the youngest in Osklaloosa schools. In 2011 they were Blessed with 2 grandchildren and are enjoying every minute of it.

Meet Our Staff

Ed Olson joined the staff in 2009 and commutes from Des Moines. He is a 24 yr veteran of the Armed Services and has been in Dentistry for over 9 years. When asked why he commutes daily he says “I really like the patients that are part of Dr Bowie’s practice and appreciates the high level of Dentistry and the great team atmosphere of working here”. |

Shirley Malin, has kept the front office running smoothly since 2001. She assists our patients with their scheduling needs as well as handles insurance and finance matters. Shirley and her husband, Gary, have lived in Oskaloosa most of their lives and have two grown children. Shirley is the proud Grandmother of 2 girls. |

Mary Jo Helgerson, RDH has recently joined the team and currently lives in Ottumwa. She received her BS from the University of Iowa and is a member of the IDHA. Mary Jo loves walking, reading and cooking and enjoys being a substitute teacher in the Ottumwa Schools. |

Rhonda Hicks has been in the dental profession since 1976 and has worked with Dr Tom since 1999. Her experience in dentistry helps provide a warm, caring and professional environment. Rhonda lives in Oskaloosa with her husband Steve. |

Michelle Shannon has been a full-time assistant since 2005. She enjoys being part of the dental team and helping to create positive changes in patients’ dental health. Michelle has lived here most of her life and has three boys. Her hobbies include gardening and spending time on a motorcycle. |
